How do I connect my HMRC account?

Navigate to Settings → HMRC Connection and click 'Connect to HMRC'. You'll be redirected to Government Gateway to authorise Regulas. Once authorised, your businesses will sync automatically.
What happens if my quarterly submission fails?

Regulas will display the specific HMRC error message. Common causes include missing obligation periods or invalid data. Fix the flagged fields and resubmit — your data is never lost.
Can I use Regulas alongside my existing accounting software?

Yes. Regulas is specifically designed for Making Tax Digital compliance. Many users continue using their preferred bookkeeping tools for day-to-day records and use Regulas for HMRC submissions.
Is my data backed up?

All data is stored in AWS-managed PostgreSQL with automated daily backups. Your digital records are retained for the HMRC-required minimum of 5 years plus the current tax year.
What if HMRC APIs are down?

Regulas monitors HMRC service status. If APIs are unavailable, you'll see a status banner in the app. All local features (bookkeeping, categorisation, reports) continue to work offline from HMRC.
How do I cancel my subscription?

Go to Settings → Subscription → Cancel. Your data will be retained for 90 days after cancellation. You can export all digital records at any time before or after cancelling.
